Lake Štikada is located in the heart of unspoiled nature. This artificial reservoir lies primarily in Lika-Senj County, with a smaller portion extending into Zadar County, right next to the town of Gračac. Surrounded by greenery and away from roads and residential areas, it is an ideal place to spend a day with family and friends.
The “Pastrva” Sport Fishing Association from Gračac regularly organizes sport fishing competitions at Lake Štikada. In addition, the association is actively involved in maintaining and preserving the lake’s surroundings, as well as monitoring and managing fish populations of various species. To support the work and development of the association, which has 90 members, we donated fishing equipment that will assist them in their future activities and competitions. This Saturday, in cooperation with the association and on behalf of Zadar 6/6P Wind Farm, we also organized a Small Fishing School for children and beginners.
The boys, aged 6 to 10, began the fishing school with a theoretical session and impressed everyone with their existing knowledge of the sport. They learned more about the fish species found in the lake, as well as which bait, hooks, and fishing rods are best suited to the different types of fish they hope to catch. For the occasion, the Pastrva Sport Fishing Association prepared and provided special T-shirts and fishing rods for all participants.
Following the theoretical session, and with the guidance of experienced instructors, the children prepared fishing groundbait used to attract fish closer to the shore. They then set up their rods, hooks, and bait before trying their hand at catching some of the smaller fish species that inhabit the lake.
Despite the high temperatures and relentless sunshine, which drove the fish into the deeper parts of the lake, the children remained patient and focused throughout the activity.
Fishing is an excellent way to develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. It is also a great exercise in patience, while mastering new techniques and making a catch gives children a sense of achievement that helps build their self-confidence.
ZD6 and ZD6P Wind Farms regularly participate in and support valuable activities for children and young people in the Gračac area. On this occasion, at the end of the fishing school, we presented the young participants with our educational colouring books on renewable energy sources (RES). Through these materials, the children had the opportunity to learn more about who we are, what we do, and why the projects they see every day near their homes are important and beneficial to their community and to a more sustainable future.
It was a genuine pleasure to spend this day with the children, their parents, and the members of the Pastrva Association. As members of the local community in Gračac, they are important stakeholders and valued partners in our shared journey toward the green transition and the creation of a sustainable future.
