Humac Solar Power Plant, in cooperation with The Selca Fire Department, organized an educational gathering yesterday, for children from the Selca kindergarten and the Povlja branch kindergarten, on the occasion of World Energy Conservation Day.
Kindergarten children learned about safety and the importance of protecting the environment and conserving energy.
The event was organized in two parts — a safety session led by the firefighters, including a demonstration of their equipment and vehicles, and a short lecture on renewable energy sources as well as the flora and fauna found in and around our solar power plant. The lecture was delivered by our colleague and nature and environmental protection specialist, Ana Ptiček.

In the first part of the educational program, held in front of the fire station, the children learned about the work of firefighters and the purpose of different pieces of their equipment. A particularly important segment focused on the rules of behavior during a fire or other situations that require firefighter intervention. However, the greatest curiosity — and concern — arose when discussing what to do in case of a potential encounter with a snake.
The firefighters prepared a short call simulation for the children, during which they practiced how to react properly, which number to dial, and how to follow instructions and remain calm in a dangerous situation. In addition, the children had the opportunity to see a simulated fire, during which the firefighters demonstrated how they respond during an intervention and how a fire extinguisher is used.

The second part of the visit took place in the hall of the fire station, where our colleague Ana Ptiček introduced the children to the concept of energy, renewable sources, and the advantages of using them in the context of environmental protection. She also included topics especially interesting to children — the animal and plant diversity found in and around our wind and solar parks.

After the lecture, the children received gifts as a souvenir of the educational visit, and they happily returned to their kindergartens accompanied by the firefighters, who ensured the safe transport of the little passengers.
Valuable partnerships and engagement with the local community
As part of this activity, we also created an interactive coloring book titled ‘Little and Big Heroes of Our Environment’. Through fun and approachable illustrations, it helps children understand what firefighters do, what renewable energy sources are, and what these two worlds have in common. It also teaches them that they, too, play an important role in keeping our environment more beautiful, cleaner, and healthier.

This gathering was a wonderful opportunity to highlight our strong cooperation and friendship with the local firefighters, and to emphasize the importance of working together to protect the environment. It also allowed us to underline the value of investing in and caring for the local community in which our renewable energy facilities operate — a community we strive to be an active part of.
Through educational activities, workshops, and engaging content, especially for the youngest members, we aim to support those who already represent the foundation of a better shared future.
